Developing students' mental health awareness and fortitude through sport. Using soccer as a platform to start important conversations.
The Awareness Tour was born from Mitch's personal battle with Crohn's Disease and mental health challenges. After facing life-threatening illness and depression, Mitch found hope through soccer and community. Now, we bring that message of resilience and awareness to young athletes across Nova Scotia.
Breaking the stigma around mental health through open conversations, education, and support within our soccer community.
Sharing Mitch's personal journey with Crohn's Disease to inspire resilience and raise awareness about inflammatory bowel disease.
Building stronger communities through sport, creating safe spaces for young athletes to share their experiences.
Bringing the Awareness Tour directly to schools, combining soccer training with mental health education.
In 2018, at the height of his coaching career, Mitch was diagnosed with severe Crohn's Disease. The illness forced him to step away from everything he loved and battle for his life.
During his recovery in early 2019, Mitch experienced intense depression and feelings of hopelessness. But in the hospital, he found renewed purpose — the idea of using his platform to help others facing similar struggles.
The Awareness Tour represents Mitch's commitment to breaking the stigma around mental health and IBD, using soccer as the vehicle to reach young people and start important conversations.
"If sharing my story helps even one young person feel less alone in their struggle, then every difficult moment was worth it."
— Mitch Doell, Founder
